6. The Simpsons “Homer Tested” iPod TouchWhat limited edition iPod list that includes a Family Guy model, would be complete without an entry from the legendary animated series, The Simpsons. Byeyond the fact that this iPod has Homer Simpson’s lovable mug etched onto the back of it, it is the first on our list to be of the new, iPod Touch variety.

Following the Family Guy iPod tradition, FOX opted to only produce 2000 of these babies, and of course, at an exorbitant price. For nearly $100 more than the base model, you can have this limited edition Simpsons iPod. As was the case with the Family Guy model, the “Homer Tested” iPod Touch is numbered and can have up to a 30 character line of text engraved into it.

5. Star Trek iPod TouchThis limited edition iPod comes from EtchStar.com, a company who specializes in custom etching. One of 200 made, this model is a product of a partnership between EtchStar and the Star Trek franchise. To further delineate itself from other iPods, aside from the large Starship Enterprise etched on the back, this iPod comes etched with its unique number on the back. If a buyer is so inclined, EtchStar offers up to five additional lines of engraving space for enthusiasts to place their favorite Star Trek quote.

Naturally, such limited awesomeness does not come cheap—the 16GB Star Trek iPod Touch starts at $469, with no additional cost for the custom engraving. Is the Star Trek iPod Touch worth an extra $169 on the list price? We’re sure many die-hard Trekkies will think so.

4. 24 iPod TouchJack Bauer may not be back on the small screen until January of 2009, but he can live on, on the even smaller screen of this limited edition iPod touch. Another offering from FOX, this limited run iPod is again, only 1 of 2000. Each one sold comes numbered and with the ability to be customized with a custom message or name engraving.

The biggest selling point of the LE iPod, for 24 fans anyway, is the impressive Counter Terrorism Unit: Domestic Unit – Los Angeles logo, complete with majestic eagle. Unfortunately, this limited run model, like the other FOX customs, does not come preloaded with any 24 content.

This model does, however, fetch the highest asking price of any limited edition iPod on our list thus far—a whopping $599. Which begs the question: what would Jack Bauer do? Our guess is he’d probably beat it out of some unsuspecting iPod owner, which is the total opposite of what you should do, but a funny mental image nonetheless.

3. The X-Files iPod NanoContinuing on in our countdown, we come to the foremost representation of the nerd culture: the limited edition X-Files iPod Nano. Produced in support of The X-Files: I Want To Believe, which we can all agree was totally overshadowed by The Dark Knight and should thus not be written off as a “bad” film…

But we digress, this limited edition Nano features the closest thing to an image of Scully and Moulder walking off into the sunset—a sea of shadowy figures being monitored by helicopters. Like the other FOX iPods that have come before it, the X-Files iPod is rare, with only a handful made. As to be expected, each is individually numbered and comes with customizable text space.

The cost of said piece of rare merchandising? $269. A modest price for such limited edition sci-fi sexy.

2. Street Fighter iPod NanoAs the second line of EtchStar products to make it onto our list, these limited edition iPods are the first gamer-inspired limited edition iPods to date. Another fortunate licensing partnership for EtchStar, Capcom has provided the art for a whole line of Street Fighter iPods. The announcement of these limited edition products is relatively fresh off the press, having only been released on August 12th, as such, pricing and availability are still TBA.

Nonetheless, no lack of details could prevent us from including these Chun Li and Ryu emblazoned iPods, which are also reported to be include: Akuma, Balrog, Bison, Blanka, Cammy, Deejay, Dhalsim, Ehonda, Guile and more.

Personally, we like the Vega version—fully equipped with hand-clawed goodness.

1. The Beatles iPod ClassicThe Beatles haven’t had a good relationship with Apple—in 2006, The Beatles sued Apple Computers for trademark infringement. The suit, which inevitably fell in Apple’s favor, was the cause of speculation as to why The Beatles’ catalog was not available on iTunes. To this day, The Beatles catalog is still not available for purchase on iTunes, but that hasn’t stopped the Bloomingdales department store chain from releasing their own limited edition Beatles iPod.

Announced in early July, Bloomingdales has dubbed the 2008 holiday season “Beatlesmania”….Well, at least in their stores. The company has reportedly retained exclusive rights to images, photographs, posters, album covers, and promotional materials in order to be reproduced in a variety of ways, most notably a limited edition iPod preloaded with Beatles tunes.

A poor artist’s rendering (pictured above), indicates what the Beatles iPod may look like this winter—a vibrant Yellow Submarine yellow—but we have higher hopes than a simple splash of color. With any luck, the Beatles iPod will feature a detailed artist’s rendering of the band or perhaps some Beatle’s inspired art, but only time will tell.

In addition to being one of the most hotly anticipated limited edition iPods on our list, the Beatles iPod is actually the rarest. Although details regarding pricing and availability have not been officially announced, the Beatles iPod is sure to be one of the most expensive and hard to find limited edition iPods to-date.

iPods, respectivly, always had a huge fan base and was always loved by all. That’s why it is so open to all kinds of Limited versions of it. This page will change, whatsoever probably tomorrow,so expect more Limited Edition stuff to come.
